TRAINING TIPS: Here are a couple of training tips to keep your fluffy friend out of sensitive areas of your home:
~ Is Spot going in the wrong spot again? It’s essential to remove all urine odours from affected areas, as this eliminates the invitation for Spot to re-mark the area again. Clean up any waste thoroughly, using an enzymatic cleaner, like PetLab’s Fresh Breeze. Human cleaning agents often do not completely remove the scent of urine which brings Spot back to the same spot again.
~ If your fur baby is marking, or relieving themselves, within your home, you may need to toilet train them again. Remember when trying to correct naughty behaviours, it is better to focus on the right behaviour, rather than correcting the behaviour or reprimanding your pet. With that in mind, take your dog where he is meant to deposit his smelly little mess after every sleep, rest, meal, play or training session. Praise them when they go in the right spot. If they do not go, bring them back indoors and return to his ‘special toilet’ again after 30 minutes.
~ After cleaning soiled areas thoroughly, you could also try to play or interact with your pet in these urine-mark areas, or even place food there, this will make your pet think of these areas as living areas rather than marking or toileting areas.
